One Step in the Right Direction
At the October 30th, 2017 meeting of the Newark City Council Rules Committee, Chairman Mike Mangus and members Jonathan Lang as well as Doug Marmie unanimously voted in favor of moving Ordinance No. 17-56 (authored by Carol Floyd) to the full City Council for a vote at the November 20th meeting and it reads as follows: "APPOINTING A CHARTER REVIEW STUDY GROUP PURSUANT TO CHARTER ARTICLE 11.05 FOR THE LIMITED PURPOSE OF CONSIDERING MODIFICATIONS TO THE CURRENT FORM OF CITY GOV

We have had quite the busy past few weeks. With the Mayor’s decision to remove the Gazebo despite broad public opposition and without Council having a chance to weigh in, many citizens of Newark have organized to be heard. This is part of a concerning pattern which must be addressed. Tomorrow is the last School Board meeting before the election. I should be there, however, a more pressing issue commands my attention and thusly my attendance at the City Council meeting instead: the growing movement against the Mayor’s near-unilateral decision to remove the Gazebo from our Square.
